6th FReDD (Toulouse, FRANCE) – CALL FOR ENTRIES

For its 6th year, FReDD Film Festival chose the following theme:

Earthwatch! « One Planet, many cultures, initiatives and cooperation » 

Bringing together people, projects and initiatives.

The FReDD-2016 festival echoes and builds upon the International Conference on Climate Change in Paris ( COP21) and addresses similar new objectives of the millennium supported by the UNESCO. The festival will take place April 1st through April 10th 2016 in Toulouse (France), in various venues (movie theaters and other partnering structures), in the city of Toulouse mainly, and in the region Haute-Garonne, Midi-Pyrénées (subject to venue partnerships)

REGISTRATION

Scientific researchers, documentary authors, filmmakers, directors, producers, non-profit organizations, institutions, communities, are welcome to participate in the FReDD Film Festival by submitting audiovisual proposals in connection with the theme:

Earthwatch! « One Planet, many cultures, initiatives and cooperation » 

Bringing together people, projects and initiatives.

The film resources and submitted digital documents can offer a scientific reflection, question our environmental future and the evolution of cultures to come, discuss advances in research and participate in the effort of raising awareness and training for sustainability.

Short film or full length film (90 min max), independent and experimental film, research, scientific documentary, Web-documentary. The lens can be poetic, political, emotional, curious, funny, journalistic. Animation also apply. FReDD festival encourages thought provoking and aesthetic quality, as well as diversity in styles.

FILM SELECTION

The festival’s selection committee will choose and present 20 movies for the « Competition » category (15 full-length films and 5 short films), picked for the quality of their scientific, aesthetic, documentary or civic features.

The committee, in collaboration with the steering committee of the festival, works in close cooperation with the scientific committee of the FReDD association. The latter also plays a part in the selection of diverse participants/speakers, partners and reference texts present during meetings and ongoing conversation.

Selection criteria:
– Quality of writing and film making
– Originality in viewpoint, strength in the topic being treated
– The proposal reports on a scientific topic
– It involves or investigates scientific research
– It presents technical or social innovation
– It explores sustainability issues

CATEGORIES AND AWARDS FOR FILMS IN COMPETITION

Full-length feature (documentary or fiction) : Jury Award ; several awards will be attributed

– Short film : High School Award

– Web documentary will be selected for a professional « webdoc » screening day, and made available online on our website www.festival-fredd.fr

Awards: The festival’s jury is international, and composed of scientific researchers, filmmakers, producers, members of nonprofit, students as well as key players from the economic and cultural community. The jury analyses and evaluates the selected films through a chosen list of criteria and all members have access to the scientific committee’s input. Awards are given by the jury during the festival’s closing ceremony. The Green Festival Network ensures awarded films international coverage and distribution, and the festival’s partner organizations facilitate local and national promotion and communication.

Depending on the partnerships and sponsors developed throughout the year, prizes or compensation will be awarded.

INFORMATION REGARDING THE REGISTRATION PROCESS

Registration Deadline:
Short Film: October 15th, 2015
Full-length Feature Film and Web Documentary: November 15th, 2015

– The film must have been produced after January 1st 2013
– One film per director
– Film format for previewing: DVD or internet link (Vimeo) of the entire film, ideally subtitled in French and/or in English. Trailers alone do not apply
– There will be no payment for screening rights
– Films cannot be taken back by filmmaker or producer once selected
– Each selected film must be sent in two versions : one that will be for the screening and one that is made available online for jury members
– FReDD will keep a copy of each selected film for its archive and private viewing
